Coach Training Financial Aid

Posted by Julia Stewart

How to make money as a life coachOccasionally we get requests for financial aid for coach training.

Yes, we do offer financial aid for coaches who want advanced master coach training at School of Coaching Mastery. We understand that making a career jump into one of the fastest-growing professions of the 21st Century can present financial challenges and we want to make it doable for you.

Here are a few options we have that make comprehensive coach training within reach for anyone, regardless of your financial situation:

However, we do not offer scholarships for coach training. Why? There are two main reasons.

I call this the Humane Society Rule. The Humane Society and ASPCA don't give away free puppies and kittens for two reasons:

  1. People value something that they pay for more than something that's free. Free puppies and kittens are more likely to be abandoned or abused than those that are paid for. Likewise, people who get free or low-cost coach training, get less value from it than people who invest substantially in it, even when it's the same training. I know this sounds crazy, but like it or not, people show up differently when they make a substantial investment. That difference is the key to their success.
  2. The Humane Society and ASPCA depend on fees to continue doing their great work. So do we. Even though some of our students only take the free program, our paid students keep us in business and get much more support, as well as advanced training from us. Again, it's the difference that makes all the difference.

Here's an example of how this works: One of the most successul coaches that I know paid $10,000 for her coach training when she was a Starbucks barista, making less than $10 per hour. As you can imagine, she had to scramble to get that $10,000 together.

Was it worth it? Today, this coach charges around $600 per hour, changing people's lives, doing something she loves. How much would you be willing to invest to make sixty times as much per hour, by helping people and doing something you love? Could you find an extra $347 per month to do it?

Or maybe you just don't trust the process. Explore this blog and website further to understand how new coaches become successful coaches faster. Some related blog posts are below.

Then again - and this is a big one - maybe you don't trust yourself. If you're someone with a history of half committing, or half trying, or of quitting before you succeed, or worse, waiting for 'proof' that you'll succeed, before you commit; work with a great coach who can help you with that. The payoff will be enormous.

Confused About Becoming a Business or Life Coach?

Confused Business or Life Coach

Confusion about your business or life coach career could be destroying your chances.

Why? Confused people don’t act.

The longer you tolerate your confusion and/or your inaction the more you destroy what could be.

Here’s the funny part. If you’re not taking action, it’s probably because you’re waiting until you’re sure what to do. That’s backwards.

Having clarity before you act is a comforting ideal, but sometimes you can’t get clarity until you act. As the preacher said, God can’t steer a parked car...

How can you step out of your confusion and into inspired action that leads you to your goals? Ask yourself some questions.

And as soon as you have the answers, take massive action immediately!

You probably won’t have enough clarity to be certain until you start acting. It’s as simple as that.

I wrote seven questions to help folks like you get clarity about their next steps toward becoming business or life coaches.

Those seven questions are on a page that offers the Ultimate Coach Training Membership Program at a special price. There is a time limit on the special price and only six spots are left.

But I’d rather you asked yourself those questions and decided to do something else than join our ultimate training, than stand around like the guy above, scratching your head and wasting your life. Because if you really are meant to be a master coach, millions of people could use your coaching.

Go here to gBecome a Business or Life Coachet 7 questions to banish your confusion about becoming a business or life coach.

And if you’re serious about business or life coaching, take massive action. Join us while you can save!

How to Become a Coach Successfully

Posted by Julia Stewart

become a successful coachToday one of my mentor coaching clients said something brilliant.

She said she realized that she'd been expecting to 'manifest' her successful coaching business with about 20% effort and she needed to go full out for it. That's one of the main reasons some coaches fail. Even if they're doing the right things and even if they aren't doing them the wrong way, often they just plain aren't doing enough

Owning your own business and making money doing what you love has so many benefits, that if it were as easy as getting and keeping a good job, everybody would be doing it. And yet, some coaches plod along doing about as much as they would have at that dead-head corporate job they escaped from and they wonder why they don't have enough clients!

If there's one thing I love about being a coach, it's that I'm passionate about it. That passion drives me forward to be, do and have everything I want by creating value for my clients. It's known as the power of full engagement and making money is just a byproduct.

If you love coaching, tap into that passion and let it drive/pull you forward. Show up fully everywhere you go and have faith that you're creating the life and business that you really want.

However, if you're just playing it safe, not taking risks, not willing to be vulnerable, waiting until everything is perfect, setting intentions without changing behaviors, or just trying to do enough to get by, you're not ever going to get there.

That reminds me of something a member of our Free Coach Training Program asked me today. Is the Free Coach Training everything you need to start a coaching business? For some people it will be, but others will either want much more or need much more. That's why we have more!

Sage Advice From a Successful New Coach

Posted by Julia Stewart

Gregg SchillingerGregory Schillinger was one of the first coaches to take a chance on School of Coaching Mastery three years ago.

So you can imagine that I was pretty darned pleased when Gregg called me up a few weeks ago and told me he's now making more money than he ever thought possible. This, while building a new coaching business in the middle of the Great Recession!

It's really no surprise, though. Gregg is an enormously talented coach and successful businessman. But then, coaches who are attracted to the word, mastery, tend to be a cut above. Hence our name, School of Coaching Mastery.

To paraphrase Gregg, it's the ones who 'get it' that you want to attract, because they get the most value.

I invite you to listen to my entire interview with Gregg, below (worth listening to the full 24 min.), because his experience can help you succeed beyond your expectations, too, but here's an outtake that is pure gold:

'If I had a plan that said I want to make this amount, I wouldn't have. And much to my wife's surprise, and now I think she's come around to think that it's good to have a plan, but best to be able to adapt for reality, because you never know who you're going to meet on the street, or in a conversation, or through a contact and that's where the plan really starts to take place. You know, it's a fluid thing.

I'm doing very well, I must say. Better than I ever have or thought I would. But in the end of the day, why not? Why shouldn't I do well and why shouldn't anybody do well? I think forcing the expectation would have done me no good.

Accept what I have now and having faith that it would all work out is how. That's my plan. That's it in a nutshell.'

Gregg's a business coach who specializes in helping new restaurant owners succeed. His website is: CoachingRestaurants.com

Unfortunately, the audio player isn't working on this page, but you can listen to this audio here.

Are you also a coach or coach-to-be who's attracted to mastery and an 'early adopter'? You may be a perfect fit for our new Ultimate Coach Training Pilot Membership Program, which can save you a bundle. You can't read about it on our site, but you can attend a free class this week to learn about it. There are just seven spots open in this program.

Demand for Coaches is Steady Says The Wall Street Journal

Posted by Julia Stewart

The Wall Street Journal.

The August 25, 2009 Wall Street Journal reports that demand for executive coaches and business coaches is steady and, in some cases, is rising despite - or even because of the recession.

Why is demand for coaching still so high even while the economy is struggling? Simple. Coaches help businesses, executives and employees improve their bottom line. They make more money. And isn't that what most people want during a recession?

But as you've probably noticed, I'm a bit biased about coaching. So you may be tempted to ignore me when I tell you that MSNBC called coaching one of the top five careers for 2009, or that Google CEO, Eric Schmidt says everyone needs a coach, etc., etc., etc.

So Ignore me. Just read what The Wall Street Journal says about coaching in the recession.

How to Become a Coach

Confident CoachThere's never been a better time to become a business or life coach.

There's also never been a more confusing time to become a coach! It used to be that you could rely on the better coaching schools and professional associations to provide solid information on how to become a coach and that is still true.

But these days, "black hat coaching schools" are buying website addresses that sound like well-known coach training schools and coach certifying organizations and passing themselves off as the the real thing. How do you know who to believe?

Add that to competitive marketing among the hundreds of legitimate coach training schools, plus the lack of universal standards in the coaching profession and the new coach is often confused, at best, and paralyzed with uncertainty, at worst. Confusion and paralysis are the enemies of success!

Get clarity, confidence and the information you need, without all the hype and distractions.

I designed the "How to Become a Coach" mini-course for people who are considering becoming professional business or life coaches and need clarity in order to make the best decision. If that's you, then I invite you to join us. (Don't worry, School of Coaching Mastery isn't a fit for every coach, so I won't twist your arm to become a member.)

This 4-hour "How to Become a Coach" course is free and meets in two 2-hour virtual classes. You'll attend our unique eClass system, which combines the best of teleconference classes with the best of webinar training. You can do everything in our virtual classes that you can do in a live class (except get stuck in traffic on the way).

Get answers to questions like these:

  • How can I start attracting clients quickly?
  • What do I really need to get started as a coach?
  • What can I charge?
  • How soon can I make a living?
  • How do I know what niche or specialty to offer?
  • Do I really need coach training?
  • How long will it take me to become a masterful coach?
  • How do I know which coaching websites are legitimate?
  • Do I need coach certification? Which one?
  • Should I have my own coach?
  • What are my next steps?

You'll leave with clarity, a plan of action, a path and your next steps.

Becoming a Coach: A Simple Way to Choose Your Path

Posted by Julia Stewart

Confused coach

Where should you start when becoming a coach?

The days of simply printing up business cards and calling yourself a coach are over. Large scale surveys of professional coaches show that coaches without coach-specific training and certification are less successful than trained and certified coaches and are more likely to quit the profession within a few years. That can cost you tens of thousands of dollars in lost income, as well as the fun and fulfillment that comes from succeeding as a coach and helping your clients achieve what they really want.

There are hundreds of coaching schools to choose from, some that are excellent and some that are not so excellent, so choosing one can be an overwhelming decision.

I suggest you begin your quest for the perfect coach training school for you by first deciding which coach certification you want.

Why? Because there are fewer coach certifications to choose from and that choice will narrow down your options for coach training, making it easier to decide.

I also suggest you get certified by an independent not-for-profit certifying organization.

Why? A certification in almost any profession that comes from an independent certifying organization that is not-for-profit is usually seen as less-biased and therefore more respected than a certification that comes from the school where you trained. Standards vary between schools. In fact, there are a couple of training programs that claim to train and certify professional coaches in only a few days! Don’t be taken in by that promise.

The two most recognized independent not-for-profit coaching organizations that certify professional coaches are the IAC and the ICF.

We suggest you visit both the IAC and ICF websites to see which one you feel most drawn to. Both organizations have about the same number of subscribers and are well respected, but their certification processes are completely different. You can also view lists of licensed or approved coaching schools on each site. Choose a school that prepares you for the certification of your choice. Simple!
