MASTER COACH LEVEL 1
CONNECTING 1: Bonding
Without trust between you and your client, the coaching relationship can go no where. With it, there is almost no limit to what your client can do with your assistance. Perfect some simple techniques to maximize trust.
1-2. Believing in the Client
Your client’s trust in you is a natural outgrowth of who you are and how you relate to them. Be someone who honestly believes in your client, regardless of what happens. This simple element will help them accomplish far more.
2-1. Acknowledging the Client
There are many ways to validate your client and knowing when and how to do this is one of the most powerful skills you’ll develop. With this one skill, we open the gate to your client’s full potential.
3-3. Mirroring Effectively
In many ways, the coach is a mirror that reflects who the client really is and who they are becoming – before the client even realizes it. Understand when and how to use this important skill and increase your client’s awareness instantly.
CLARIFYING 1: Discovering
Coaching is more powerful when the coach speaks mindfully and economically. Each word, its pacing and rhythm, is carefully articulated as the coach checks in with internal and external cues. In so doing, the coach creates an environment of learning and expansion and models clarity of thought and behavior for the client.
6-1. Using This-or-That Questions
This simple tool gives the coach the power to uncover what is most important about who the client is and what they really want to work on, without judging, leading, or asking closed-ended questions. Discover which questions are most powerful for you.
4-2. Mastering Past, Present and Future
The only time when action, choice and change can take place is the present. No surprise then, that this is the primary focus of the masterful coach. What roles do the past and future play in a coaching session and how do they best serve the present?
4-1. Interrupting the Client
Coaches generally avoid interrupting the client’s thoughts and words. However, sometimes the client gets caught up in a story or heads down a path that doesn’t serve them and passively listening doesn’t help them at all. Here are techniques for nudging the client back on track and increasing the value of the coaching.
CREATING 1: Collaborating
Clients usually come to coaching sessions with intentions for what they want to achieve. Often these stated intentions are like buds or shoots of a new plant with hidden roots and enormous potential. We need to explore what is out of sight or unknown, while keeping an eye on the potential for growth and evolution.
7-1. Avoiding Tunnels and Wrong Turns
Given the exploratory, non-linear nature of coaching, it’s not unusual for the coach and client to get a little lost at times. Occasionally, we notice that we seem to be in unproductive territory and we need to find our way back. Here are a few possibilities for avoiding getting lost and finding your way back if you do.
8-1. Coaching with Creativity
Great coaches aren’t just empty vessels. Clients hire us because we have something extra to add to the conversation. That something is more than expertise or coaching skill. Clients sometimes need us to collaborate with them in creating ideas, solutions and goals that didn’t exist before. Our creativity is a big value add.
9-1. Creating a Supportive Community
Clients don't grow in a vacuum. The greatest influence on them is the community of people who touch them throughout their lives. For a relatively short time, you become just one member of that community. Here are a few ideas for optimizing your clients’ community to support them in their evolution.

CONNECTING 2: Advocating
Most coaches acknowledge too little, because they don’t perceive everything about their client that’s worth acknowledging. When you come from a place where you believe in your client and even see how perfect they already are, acknowledgment is spontaneous.
2-3. Expanding Awareness
Most clients are saddled with false modesty. It’s our job to remove this burden and help them see how amazing they truly are. By perceiving and sharing with them their strengths, gifts, accomplishments, etc. and helping them see what else is possible, we expand their awareness of themselves, their world and their potential.
1-3. Handling Fear
Most of the time, what holds your client back is fear. If you can eliminate fear or at least reduce its hold on your client, you will unleash in them the power to be, do and have whatever they most want.
5-1. Standing for the Client
The masterful coach is always completely “for” the client and knows that this can mean going the extra mile in some cases. When we are fully committed to our client’s success, the client is confident, at ease and free to take actions that pull them forward.
CLARIFYING 2: Navigating
How do you validate your client throughout a coaching session without getting in their way and why would you want to? Masterful coaches know the answers to these questions. Continuous validation is critical to coaching and these techniques will help you do it with grace and ease.
4-3. Perceiving Wholeness: Mind, Body, Heart and Spirit
Our clients are whole and complete and so are we. What does this really mean and how might this impact the way we process and exchange information with our clients? How do we elicit this wholeness from them and remember our own wholeness?
5-3. Navigating with Intent
The coach neither drives nor follows the coaching conversation; rather they navigate with the intention of assisting the client to grow, succeed and evolve according to what the client wants and needs in each moment. Goals, blocks, dynamics, resistance, curiosity, talents and greatness are all signposts in the journey toward success.
6-2. Making Distinctions
Often your client doesn’t have the language to describe what’s most important right now. By sharing pertinent distinctions you can create clarity, focus and energy in an instant. Advanced clients (and coaches) may be ready for paradoxes, as well.
CREATING 2: Expanding
Once we’ve discovered what “it” is: the goal, the problem, the potential; we need to assist the client to design an action plan to create their desired outcome. Helping our clients take the next steps, think strategically, and find leverage points; will assist them in reaching success quickly.
8-2. Expanding Options and Opportunities
When we’re in our personal greatness we see more for our clients than they can see, themselves. We need to share these options and opportunities in ways that aren't limited to our previous experience or to theirs, and that expand comfort zones and perceived possibilities .
8-3. Leveraging Perfection to Create Choice
Our clients’ problems and challenges are always perfectly calibrated to grow them in whatever direction is needed. When we can see this, we can see possibilities and opportunities that may be hidden from them. The trick is to know when and how to share this critical knowledge.
9-3. Utilizing Tools, Structures and Systems
You may bring to your coaching sessions tools and resources, like books, assessments, exercises and other materials. In addition, your knowledge of how to create systems and structures that support big undertakings and growth, will add to the value you can create for your client within and without the coaching session.

CONNECTING 3: Inspiring
With fear eliminated and a relationship build on belief and trust, you and your client both will be able to afford far more risk. More risk generally means more reward. Now you can focus on maximizing the client’s full potential.
2-4. Inspiring Greatness
Greatness is contagious. When we are firmly centered in our own greatness, our clients naturally find theirs more easily and it’s easy to ask our clients the questions that bring out their full potential.
3-1. Using the Power of Silence
Most coaches understand that the client needs to talk more during a session than the coach. Almost more than any other skill, knowing when and how to be silent can cause powerful breakthroughs. This is an advanced skill that when done well, takes “priming the pump” to a whole new level.
3-4. Noticing Everything
This is a tall order, but the masterful coach notices and articulates far more than the client ever can, alone. By raising their antennae and listening with the mind, body, heart and soul, the coach is able to tap into much more than what the client says and that creates tremendous value.
CLARIFYING 3: Opening
Having established a high level of trust and commitment to each other, the coach and client are free to explore new fields of growth for the client that go beyond what the coach was hired for. This new terrain expands awareness and points to areas of greatness and possibility for the client.
6-3. Navigating the Path of Inquiry
Masterful coaches don’t just wander through coaching conversations, hoping to discover what’s most important. They have specific tools for creating focus, eliminating confusion and eliciting profound conversations.
6-4. Discovering Inner Dynamics
The masterful coach expands possibilities by going deeper on the subject than the client ever would alone. It’s important to reveal the client’s values, needs and wants, to find what is most meaningful and inspiring, what’s really holding the client back and to facilitate shifts in thinking with feedback, inklings and new paradigms.
4-4. Exploring the Client's Inner Knowing
The coach who is in touch with his/her inner knowing is well served by that awareness. Our clients can learn to remain in touch with their own inner knowing and we can help them tap into it, even when they aren’t with us.
CREATING 3: Evolving
Clients are usually capable of much more than they realize and are just waiting to be challenged to do what they’re built for. The perfect goal, solution or plan may require a level of audacity that surprises and excites both you and them. Always be checking to see if a bigger plan is needed.
8-4. Taking the Big Leap
When possibilities are sufficiently revealed, often what is next is taking inspired action towards making them real. This takes commitment, courage and faith for both coach and client. Here's how to move beyond our own resistance and help our clients to eliminate theirs.
9-2. Evolving the Memetic Environment
Communities create cultures from memes: ideas, concepts, words and other snippets of knowledge and experience that evolve people and cultures and which are constantly mutating, combining and evolving themselves in ways that expand your clients’ consciousness and potential.
9-4. Building a Strategic Habitat
Coaching clients grow and evolve as they take action, get what they want, and become who they must be. We can assist them both during the coaching session and beyond coaching, by designing a strategic habitat that will evolve them in the direction that they need to grow.
