How to find a life coach

Wondering how to find a life coach?

You're ready to upgrade your life and reach some important life goals, such as living your life purpose, discovering your core values, being great everyday; or just having struggle-free relationships with your family, co-workers and significant other.

A good life coach can help you reach all those goals more easily and quickly, but where do you go to find a life coach and how do you know a life coach is qualified?

The simplest way to find a good life coach is to get a recommendation from a friend, but what if you don't know anyone who's worked with a life coach? If you're the trail-blazer in your crowd, you may just have to discover some new tools for finding your life coach.

Most life coaches work over the telephone and have online websites, so searching for a life coach online makes a lot of sense.

Here are nine suggestions for finding a life coach online:

  • Use an online life coach directory and use the site's search function to find a life coach.
  • If you'd like your life coach to be located in your home city, so you can meet in person, search via location.
  • To narrow down your life coach search, read each life coach's bio and choose 5-10 that you really like. Base your choices on the specialties that each coach offers. Also read any testimonials, reviews or ratings for each life coach.
  • Your directory should have a 'favorites' function (ours looks a like a little heart in each coach's listing - just click the little heart to favorite it), so you can save your search (you may need to set up a simple profile or sign in via Facebook in order to save favorites).
  • Once you have your list of favorites, narrow down your search further by choosing certified life coaches, only. The most respected coach certifications are from the ICF (International Coach Federation) and the IAC (Internation Association of Coaching), so look for ICF or IAC Coach Certifications. A certification from a coaching school may also be good, but requirements vary widely, so be wary of most coaching school certifications. SCM (School of Coaching Mastery) coach certifications are pretty rigorous, so you may also look for SCM Coach Certification.
  • Once you've found 3-5 certified life coaches who specialize in the areas you want to work on and have good reviews, contact each of them by email or telephone and request to do a complimentary coaching session with them.
  • Base your final choice on the coach whose complimentary coaching session was most fun and valuable to you and who offers you terms that are agreeable.
  • Your coach should send you a written coaching agreement to you via email or postal mail.
  • Have fun with your coach and Be Great!
