New York City Midtown Coaching Center
The NYCMCC was started almost 10 years ago, along with the start of Coachville under Thomas Leonard. It stands for the NYC Midtown Coaching Center. The founding observation was that: Coaches are people-persons, fascinated and engaged by personal relationship; this is why they spend all day in front of the computer with a headset on!
We thought that coaches would fundamentally find other coaches good to be around. That’s turned out to be true. Also, people seeking coaches visit us regularly and are given serious guidance by our members!
Recently, we’ve switched our “chapterness” to IAC and SCM, and have had some training in the new flavors of coaching and coaching training that have replaced the old. Fascinating stuff.
The first part of an evening program is usually focused on coaching techniques or practice-building – a speaker from the industry is invited. The second part is triad or hot-seat coaching – and members report extraordinary value in participating in public coaching processes. In Triad coaching, 3 members rotate through roles as coach, client and observer, reporting back at the end of the cycle. In Hot-Seat coaching, a single “client” is coached in front of an audience by a series of coaches, and the audience later comments on the different expertises they observed.
Our meetings are taped so that members who miss the program can hear a tape. We keep information current at www.nycmcc.com and members can register on line at that site (they pay substantially less when they do!)
The astounding Julia Stewart has spoken to the NYCMCC, and its regular newsletter always features her.
