We’re all about connections!

September 24, 2008

Dear Mastery Coach,

I’m in beautiful northern Ontario making my Canadian Connection this week, before I head back home to the States and another Fall season with cool new stuff happening at School of Coaching Mastery ~

And SCM is all about making “connections” this month! 115 professional coaches responded to our survey on coaches and social networking sites. 56% said they’re building their businesses and getting clients this way and they love the connections they are making with folks all over the world! Their favorites are LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter in that order.

On closer inspection, I found some telling differences in the responses between those who’ve been successful with online SNS and those who haven’t. One fascinating discrepancy lies in the different ways that coaches view online networking. The unsuccessful coaches seem to be missing that “sweet spot” between doing business and having fun!

Watch for more on this topic, as I tease out the meaning behind all the data. You can discover more as we roll out our new Mastery Coach Exchange networking site for coaches and people who are looking for coaches. If you’d like to get in on the ground floor, join us now (it’s fre*e) and co-design this laboratory for creating coaching connections!

Not sure what all the fuss is about? Read the following quotes from over 50 coaches on what they love about online social networking sites, in Keyword: CONNECT!

Not a coach yet, but would really love to discover more about it? Then our new Coach Launch and Coach Launch Pro programs will help you connect the dots. And your can save hundreds of dollars by signing up either program before September 26th. Visit http://www.schoolofcoachingmastery.com/coach_launch.html for details.

Keyword: CONNECT!

Over 50 coaches responded to our question, “What do you love about online social networking?” Remember, the majority of them are already building their businesses with this hot relationship tool. They mention connection, ease, relationships and fun over and over. No wonder coaches love online social networking!

Online social networking is the best way to establish and deepen relationships with people who touch your business in many different ways.
Re-connecting with people I already know, but haven't been in touch with, sometimes for decades.
I can get immediate feedback from individuals on their needs and can then connect with them on how I can help them.
You get to meet many different people for many reasons, not just to find clients, but to find interesting discussions as well.
That my friends and family can know what I'm up to.
As a very active blogger online social networking helps me extend my reach beyond my usual readership.
I love the capability of being connected with those who do what I'm passionate about.
I have just begun using it as I am still in my coaching process. I am using it to have folks post their recommendations for me. But, I also like connecting with people as well.
That it's international, can network with anyone anywhere.
To seek, learn and practice the ways in which one can build stronger skill base and establish relationships.
I love staying in touch with friends who are far away, especially in different time zones because I can see their updates, look at their pictures any time I like and post comments.
Meeting new potential clients.
A dynamic virtual environment is a perfect vehicle for expressing my unique interests, opinions, and personality as well as connecting with friends, colleagues, clients, family, and all their contacts. Rather than giving me headaches like some other business building tools, online social networking sites are fun to play around with and extremely easy to update and change.
Being able to connect with people in other areas of expertise who could expand my learning so I can better serve my clients.
I love making immediate connections with others - in all aspects of my life.
Online social networking has opened doors for me with connections in my targeted industry that would traditionally not have been easily accessible.
I love the ease of connecting with others and expanding my network through those I trust.
I love the ability to connect with people from around the world, eliminating the barriers of space and time. My favorite site, Twitter has opened up even more opportunities for me quickly and efficiently. And it's FUN!
The ability to reach a much wider audience than networking locally. I can connect with people across the country and across the world.
You get to meet interesting people who sometimes share common interests.
Exposure to people without having to meet face to face.
I have been using LinkedIn to connect clients with referrals for job leads.
LinkedIn is a safe and easy way to stay connected with (potential) business partners.
Ability to expand networking reach and connect with people that have previously been firewalled.
Expanding my boundaries and broadening my horizons; pushes me outside of my comfort zones.
Because coaching is very personal and "face-to-face"; a potential client sees your face and gets more of a connection with you.
Online Social Networking is a great resource for people to get to know who I am and how I can assist them in their life goals.
I love having a simple way to connect daily with friends and associates who I cannot "see" any other way.
Online networking connects you globally to a whole spectrum of potential clients in a relaxed and friendly manner, thus making it a very powerful tool.
The opportunity to "bump into" people I would not otherwise meet.
I love being able to offer my services to my ideal clients and being accessible to my current clients and prospects.
The ability to discover contacts, old and new, that I wouldn't know how to find or have access to otherwise.
Makes connecting with others... simple, fun, and easy!
You can converse online any time of day.
I love social networking because I can reach my target market where ever they are in the world without leaving my office.
So many communities are interconnected, and feeds from my blogs are then "cross-pollinated"! Plus, the fact that it is a more social setting in which to connect with like minded individuals. It is a non-threatening way for people to communicate with me, as first point of contact.
I love that you can connect with anyone, even someone thousands of miles away physically.
I love the opportunity to connect and share with people from all over the world.
I love the sense of connectedness and fellowship you get by identifying common interests and goals. It gives you an organic platform from which to launch into discussions about the services you offer.
I love having a free web presence that makes it easy to find me and learn what I do on LinkedIn.
I tend to be introverted, so social networking online is a great way to connect with others in a fun way that feels comfortable.
I love the ability to connect with people from all over the world, any time, day or night, and also to see who is connected to whom.
What I like about LinkedIn specifically is that there is a lot of information there that tells your life story that you wouldn't include on your website. Gives a person more depth if clients are interested in finding out more about a potential coach
Social networking created an avenue to connect with people from across the globe. It provided me the opportunity to create a specialized group in my field of study. In this group I carefully plan how to word discussion topics to create curiosity. I have seen a definite spike in my website views on the days discussions are posted!
I love being able to meet people who have similar passions and learn and grow from one another.
I love the way online social networks allow me to stay in touch with people I don't see regularly. It makes me feel part of something bigger than my own small business.
Seeing who else is out there and what's going on.
I love the open connection people develop as they interact on wiziq.
To meet people very fast. Another way to find clients.
Online social networking is always on - it gets referrals, makes connections and presents my best face to the world 24/7, no matter what I'm doing or what sort of a day I'm having.
Keeping in touch with what the new trends are.
The social connections and support I get for just "BE-ing" me feeds my ability to just "BE" my authentic self.
Really appreciate the connectivity of LinkedIn. At one time I was connected to about 100 people. Through them, I was connected to about 3000. Through them, 3,000,000! Very good stuff.
I love the emphasis on relationship building, and with Twitter, that it's done in a very concise yet creative medium.

Convinced, yet? How much more would you love online networking, if the site were designed specifically to connect professional
coaches with people who are looking for coaches? Join the experiment at Mastery Coach Exchange and find out!
