1. An Usual Opportunity to Learn More For Less

One time only, Natalie Tucker Miller, IAC-CC, and Julia Stewart, IAC-CC, will co-lead the three-month Certification Practicum together this summer! AND the length of each session is now longer and we've added an extra session to each month! All of this means that you get to work with two experts for less than the price of one! (Under $26 per hour, if you register for the full three months. See our offer for details)

Plus, the New Seven Secrets of Certification Module will be taught by live teleclass this June and if you take the three-month practicum at the same time, you'll get this new module for FRE*E! This is the ideal way to prepare for IAC Certification.

The fee for this unique practicum is the same as most of our modules: $275 for one month. But, you can take it this summer with two expert mentors and save $275! Get all twelve 2-hour sessions and we'll give you the new updated version of the Seven Secrets of Certification live teleclass module for fre*e.

But the real reason to do it is to become a masterful coach and prepare for IAC Certification. There are only twelve spots open for a small group of lucky coaches who are ready to prepare their recordings for IAC Certification and get feedback from two expert mentors. By the way, this practicum will never be led by two mentors again, so you might want to clear your calendar!

Why are we doing this? It gives Natalie and Julia an exciting opportunity to learn from each other and become even better at preparing coaches for IAC Certification and the twelve lucky participants will have a chance to learn twice as much for a very attractive price. Don't wait. Register now here.

2. Coaching vs. Therapy: The Ick Factor

The coaching vs. therapy issue came up for me in two completely different episodes the other day. One was in a coaching session that I observed where a coach/therapist brilliantly used a therapy technique and got the response they were after, but elicited considerable resistance from the client, in the process.* It took me by surprise, because it clearly wasn't part of the coaching "rule book" and it became a catalyst for some reflection, on my part, about what actually defines a boundary between coaching and therapy, because as you know, they are very different professional services that do overlap in a number of areas.

The other situation was with a coach/therapist who I had reason to talk to for a few minutes, who was clearly not happy that I hadn't done more of something that they thought I should be doing.* It was a really icky conversation that reminded me of how there are times when neither coaching nor therapy is appropriate.

Why therapy and counseling don't work with coaching clients: This is simple…

3. How Coaches Learn

This is how people learn:

  • 10% of what we read.
  • 20% of what we hear.
  • 30% of what we see.
  • 50% of what we see and hear.
  • 70% of what we discuss.
  • 80% of what we teach others.
  • and 100% of what we experience

4. Mastery Coach Tip of The Month: Acknowledging the Client

Once we have established a relationship of trust
, we have created a platform from which to coach and we're ready to take the conversation to a new level. This new level is where possibilities for the client begin to open up and Acknowledging the Client is one of our most powerful tools for doing this. Acknowledgement is unusually powerful, because it is all about the client and it is not manipulative.

Definition of Acknowledgment: The classic definition of Acknowledgement is a statement of truth about what the other person has done or the results that they got. It does not include the word, "I", or an opinion. The most powerful acknowledgments are specific and include the word, "you".

Examples of Acknowledgment:

  • You finished on time!
  • Wow, this project seemed to wear you out.
  • A lot of people benefit from your work.
  • You seem to express your love through your cooking.

We make these statements not just because they make the client feel good, we make them because they are true for the client and by acknowledging their truth, we help raise their energy and open them up.
