Coach Tip of The Month: Building Supportive Communities |
|
This month's tip is from IAC Coaching Mastery™ #9 Helping The
Client to Create and Use Support Systems and Structures.
Your
client, of course, doesn't grow and evolve in a vacuum. Clients
are influenced (conditioned) by people, events, ideas, etc.,
their entire lives. By far, the greatest influences are the communities
of people who touch them throughout their days.
"You
become who you hang out with." - Thomas J. Leonard
Who
are these communities? Family, friends, colleagues, co-workers,
professional advisors, authors, trainers, people in the media, bloggers,
as well as members of their clubs, churches, online networking sites
and many, many more. You are who you hang out with.
For
a relatively short time, you the coach, become just one influential
member of your client's community for say, about one hour of their
week. No matter how well you coach them, the other members of their
community will have a stronger influence during the other 167 hours.
Those people may be influencing your client to stay the same; rather
than grow, take risks, and change.
So
how can your coaching possibly be effective? In other words, how
do you co-create sustainable change for your client? One way is
by helping them create communities of people who influence them
to become who they want to be, fulfill their true potential and
achieve what they really want - even when you're not coaching them.
To
find out how to do this masterfully, take the SCM Mastery #9 Module
this May. Find out more here
