More Info on SCM Foundation Modules


The following modules represent SCM's Foundations.
These are the classes we recommend for new coaches to take first.


F1 Coaching Groundwork

This eight-hour module is the foundational course for the Full Coach Training Program at the School of Coaching Mastery, or it can be taken as stand-alone training. Coaches may choose to take this program first and decide on the full training later.

Each eClass will introduce you to one or two coaching skills, followed by a coaching demonstration and opportunities to practice right away. More on Coaching Groundwork here.


F2 New Paradigms for Coaches

This is a four-week, eight-hour module. Each two-hour eclass begins with discussion of coaching concepts, with some demonstration and practice. This format is designed to thoroughly cover the material and facilitate rapid learning.

1. Metaphysical Paradigms

Metaphysics reaches back into the deepest past a brings us spiritual philosophies that have guided us through the ages. What makes these NEW Paradigms, now? Many of these paradigms have been forgotten, altered, or perhaps even hidden for centuries. Now they are being rediscovered and popularized. Together, these paradigms may point to forgotten ways of being that rebalance and renew us.

2. Universal Paradigms

Quantum and Astrophysics tell us what the Universe is like at the very, very small level and the very, very large and what they tell us is that those worlds are different from our daily world - in the extreme. It's been said that the Universe is not only stranger than we know; it’s stranger than we can know. One of the most interesting shifts in thinking, is that science is beginning to converge with religion, once thought to be its polar opposite.

3.Global Paradigms

The world of technology and globalized business is changing human interactions in surprising ways, creating new choices and eliminating old ones. Technology is changing, business is changing, society is evolving and so are people. Here are ten of the most important shifts in thinking that you and you clients may need to be aware of.

4.Individual Paradigms

To function well in life, it is valuable to have a personal operating system (POS) that serves us well. Here are several elements of a POS that serves very well in the early 21st Century.


F3 What Drives Your Client

This is a two-week, four-hourmini-module. Each two-hour eclass begins with discussion of coaching concepts,with some demonstration and practice. This format is designed to thoroughly cover the material and facilitate rapid learning.

1.What Your Client is Chasing

Your client will come to your coaching sessions with goals, desires and wants, complicated by fear, confusion, frustration, needs, shoulds, coulds and woulds. How do you sift through all of this and find what’s most important and what will help them succeed? This class will get you start separating false issues from authentic issues in a way that instantly adds value for your client.

2. What Pulls Your Client Forward

Our job is to help clients get what they want. That’s usually easier when they focus on what really matters to them, which is how we define a value (not to be confused with Value System, which is how a person thinks). When we help our clients define core values and help them align their integrity, life gets more fun and fulfilling and results are much easier to achieve.


F4 Do the Right Thing: Ethics for Coaches

This is a two-week, four-hour mini-module. Each two-hour teleclass begins with discussion of coaching concepts, with some demonstration and practice. This format is designed to thoroughly cover the material and facilitate rapid learning.

1.IAC Code of Ethics

This is an introduction to the Ethical Principles, Code and the Member Pledge that all IAC members must take when they join the organization. We’ll discuss what is meant by these ethics and how they may impact you, as a professional.

2.Sticky Situations

From time to time, you’ll experience professional situations that challenge your ethics and confuse your choices. Here are a few scenarios and choices you may face, with potential options and guidance from the IAC's Code of Ethics.


F5 Introduction to Spiral Dynamics Integral for Coaches

Spiral Dynamics Integral is a Psycho, Social, Spiritual model that clearly describes how peoples' values grow, develop and evolve. As such, it's an important model for coaches to understand that can explain and predict what your clients are growing through. It's based on the groundbreaking research of Dr. Clare Graves, developed by Dr. Don Beck and influenced by the integral Philosophy of Ken Wilber. This introductory course is designed especially for coaches and is primarily discussion with some demonstration and practice. Students will test to see where they fit on the Spiral. There is required reading, as well.

1.SDi Overview and Back Story

You’re about to discover a theory of human nature, development and evolution that will leave you wondering, “Why haven’t I thought of this before?”, “Why isn’t this more widely-known?”, “Is this the missing piece that will solve many of today’s problems?”, “How can I use this to coach more effectively?”

2. The Eight vMemes or Values Systems

This class focuses more specifically on the eight vMemes that have been identified by research, how to identify them and we’ll begin to look at how they might show up in a coaching session.

3. vMemes and Coaching Clients

You have a solid introduction to the SDi model. Now we’ll see how this can show up in your coaching sessions and assist you to understand your clients and their situations more quickly and help them find solutions that are more effective.

4.SDi Intro Practicum

You’ve now immersed yourself in the theory of Spiral Dynamics Integral, you got an overview of Spiral Dynamics, where it comes from and how it fits into other important models of human behavior, and you took a close-up look at the eight currently identified vMemes and how to recognize them. This week, you’ll try coaching with Spiral Dynamics.

 

F7 Designing The Coach/Client Relationship

We're adding this NEW mini-module by popular demand from our students. Two two-hour classes.

You've got your first few clients. Congrats! Now how do you set up the coaching relationship to maximize success for both you and your clients? This is an important passage along the way to your sustainable success. We'll remove the mystery so you can proceed with confidence.

Class 1: Setting up the Rights Systems for Success

We'll cover all the nitty gritty in this first class: payment options, coaching agreements/contracts, intakes, prep forms, assessments, client extras, gifts, long-term coaching vs. limited engagements, bundling products, etc. Also, steps to clarify the client's expectations.

Class 2: Setting up the Successful Relationship

Even when your systems are perfectly designed, you still need to take steps to set up your relationship with the client, so that confusion and resistance don't derail your great coaching. We'll cover issues that typically show up in the first month of coaching as well as situations that indicate that it's time to RE-design the coaching relationship. When you handle these issues as they come up, they're not a problem. Attempt to step over them, though and you may be in for a bumpy ride!
